Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about FrameworkDocs. Can't find the answer? Email us at the bottom of this page.

FrameworkDocs supports 10 professional document types: Statement of Work (SOW), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Employee Handbook, HR Policy, SOC 2 Policy, Mutual NDA, Master Service Agreement (MSA), Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA), Incident Response Plan, and Project Proposal.

Each document type has a tailored conversation flow designed to collect exactly the information needed — no generic templates, no blank pages.

FrameworkDocs uses generative AI to create documents. AI-generated content is not perfect.

The AI may include additional language that mirrors industry best practices — this is often helpful and produces more complete documents, but it may not align with what your specific organization needs or wants. You should always treat generated documents as a strong first draft, not a final product.

Review everything before putting a document into effect. Check names, dates, dollar amounts, scope statements, and any organization-specific details. The AI doesn't know your internal policies, reporting structures, or edge cases — you do.

This is exactly why we provide Word (.docx) export — so you can open the document in any word processor and customize every detail to match your organization's requirements. The goal is to get you 90% of the way there instantly; you polish the rest.

After selecting a document type, FrameworkDocs walks you through a structured conversation — typically 5–7 steps — asking targeted questions about your project, parties, scope, and requirements. You answer in plain language; the AI handles the legal and professional formatting.

The conversation is divided into stages (Understanding → Structuring → Drafting → Formatting → Preparing) so you always know where you are and how much is left.

Yes — two ways. First, you can export to Word (.docx) and edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or any word processor. This is the most reliable option for significant changes. The exported file preserves all formatting including headings, tables, and signature blocks.

Second, Builder and Complete plan users can use the in-app Edit feature: describe the change you want in plain English (e.g. "Change payment terms to Net 30") and the AI applies it directly. Note that Edit is currently in beta — see below for details.

The Edit feature lets Builder and Complete users describe changes in plain English and have the AI update the document automatically — without leaving the app.

It's currently in beta, which means it works well for straightforward edits (changing specific terms, swapping names, adjusting wording in a section) but may not produce ideal results for complex or structural changes. We're actively improving it.

Our recommendation: Use Edit for quick targeted changes. For anything significant — restructuring sections, adding new clauses, major rewrites — export to Word (.docx) and make your edits there. That workflow gives you full control with no surprises.

Builder and Complete plan users can export in three formats:

PDF — print-ready, professionally formatted, ideal for signing and sharing

Word (.docx) — fully editable in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or any word processor; import into Google Drive to get a live Google Doc; paste into Confluence as a page

Markdown (.md) — plain text with formatting syntax, ideal for GitHub wikis, Notion, Confluence, and developer documentation tools

Free plan users can preview documents in the browser. Export is available on Builder ($19.99/mo) and Complete ($29.99/mo) plans.

FrameworkDocs has three tiers:

Free — Access all document types, generate and preview documents in the browser. Limited to 2 documents. Export, Edit, and Delete require a paid plan.

Builder ($19.99/mo) — Unlimited documents, PDF/Word/Markdown export, in-app Edit feature (beta), document delete, and 2 free SOC 2 policies from the AICPA Trust Services suite.

Complete ($29.99/mo) — Everything in Builder, plus the full SOC 2 suite: all 31 AICPA Trust Services Criteria policy documents, giving you complete audit-ready coverage.

Click the "⚡ Upgrade" button in the top-right corner of the app. You'll see the Builder and Complete plan options with pricing. Select your plan and you'll be taken to a secure Stripe checkout page.

After payment completes, your account upgrades instantly — all export options, Edit, and (on Complete) the full SOC 2 suite become available immediately. No waiting, no manual activation.

Once your document is generated, click the "Export ▾" button in the document header. A dropdown appears with options for PDF, Word (.docx), and Markdown. Click your preferred format and the file downloads immediately.

Export requires a Builder or Complete plan. If you're on Free, clicking Export will prompt you to upgrade.

Click the "Print" option in the Export dropdown. This opens your browser's print dialog. To save as PDF, choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in the print dialog — all browsers support this.

The app uses a custom print stylesheet that hides all UI elements and formats the document cleanly for paper. For best results, leave margins set to "Default" in the print dialog.

Yes. Your documents are stored securely in an encrypted database and are only accessible to your account. We do not share your document content with third parties or use it to train AI models.

All connections use HTTPS/TLS in transit. Your password is never stored in plain text — we use bcrypt hashing with salt. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting support.

Yes. All your documents are saved automatically and accessible from the sidebar under "Documents." You can click any previous document to view and export it at any time.

Free accounts can create up to 2 documents. Builder and Complete plans have no limit — create as many documents as your business needs.

Yes. Your company name appears automatically as the authoring organization on all documents — on the title page and in signature blocks. You can set or update your company name by clicking your name/company in the top navigation bar of the app.

FrameworkDocs supports the full AICPA Trust Services Criteria (TSC) framework — 31 policy documents covering all five trust service categories: Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy.

Each policy maps directly to one or more of the 31 AICPA criteria. You'll get audit-ready, formatted policy documents with the right structure, scope statements, and control language.

Free and Builder plans include 2 SOC 2 policy documents so you can try before committing. Complete plan ($29.99/mo) unlocks all 31 policies — the full suite needed for a complete SOC 2 Type I or Type II audit package.

SOC 2 policies are longer and more detailed than other document types, so generation may take 1–3 minutes. The streaming view shows your policy being written in real time.

FrameworkDocs uses AI to generate documents, and AI processing has a daily usage budget shared across the platform. When that budget is exhausted for the day, document generation is temporarily paused until the limit resets.

Key facts:

Large documents use more budget. Complex documents like SOC2 policies, Employee Handbooks, and Incident Response Plans are longer and use significantly more of the daily allowance than shorter documents like NDAs or Proposals.

The limit resets at midnight UTC every day. If you hit the limit, you can continue generating documents the next day.

This limit applies regardless of your plan tier. It is a platform-wide constraint, not per-user — it affects everyone equally during high-usage periods.

If you need to generate documents urgently and keep hitting this error, email support@frameworkdocs.com and we'll do our best to help.
